Izumi Guillotine Cable Cutter: Bright Spark Cutter
A customer contacted SF about utilising some hydraulic battery tools for cutting steel wire rope and reo bar. They were cutting the wire rope, mild steel chain and concrete mesh on site using an angle grinder. The wire rope is used to create barricades on walk ways in bushland areas, so motor bikes and vehicles cannot access them. Because of the sparking nature of the angle grinder they accidentally caused a small bushfire, hence the change in procedure. Hydraulic battery tools are a much safer option for this application than an angle grinder for the following reasons:
- Sparks from angle grinder rotating discs – fires.
- Heat produced on material – waiting for cool down to join crimp.
- Cut Projectiles – Angle grinder rotation speed of offcuts.
Below is the construction type of the wire rope, some video is also on this page in which the guillotine pistol style Izumi REC-S624 and REC-S640 had no problem in cutting the materials.
