Hilman Load Rollers/Skates: Take the High Road
36 tonne capacity specially modified Hilman Rollers were used to position individual precast concrete segments during the construction process of an elevated freeway. The Rollers have dual chains, Accu-Roll Guidance & a special sliding top plate with a hydraulic ram mount to accommodate both vertical and lateral adjustments. Each segment weighs 72 tonnes and during the life of the project, 3000 segments were placed. Hilman Rollers were used inverted under the launching truss, using the span-by-span erection method to advance it from pier to pier. The 68 tonne capacity rollers are outfitted with swivelling rocker tops & neoprene preload pads. The Hilman Rollers played an integral role in the construction process of a 9 kilometre elevated reversible structure built in the median of an existing freeway.
