alkitronic® CLD Series Pneumatic Torque Wrench: Harder, Better, Faster, Safer
A manufacturer of industrial gas engines required a torque solution to secure engine blocks in washing chambers once the milling processes were completed.
These engines are designed and built to endure the harshest conditions in demanding applications in wastewater treatment plants, power plants and in other energy related applications around the world. With this in mind, the manufacturer knew that the torque solution they were looking for needed to be able to withstand similar conditions and provide an end result that would also be appropriate in such environments.
The tools initially being used for the application were impact wrenches, which were being serviced frequently – resulting in a regular costly exercise for the company.
After searching for potential cost-effective torque control solutions, the industrial engineers approved the alkitronic® CLD Series Torque Multiplier for their applications.
The alkitronic® CLD Series are heavy-duty units for applications from 60 Nm to 9,800 Nm (approx. 44 to 7,200 Ft/lbs). With eleven models with square drives ranging from 3/4" to 1 1/2", these high-quality German-made pneumatic torque multipliers are widely used in mining, industrial, oil and gas and many other applications.
The CLD torque wrenches shut-off when the pre-set torque is achieved and are qualified for environments with increased hazard of explosion.
They are non-impacting tools that provide better joint quality compared to impact or hydraulic wrenches as they allow continuous rotation of the square drive.
A simple one-finger action is all that is required to alternate between right and left operation and an optional facility to lock the gear in a fixed position is also available.
The robust motor housing is manufactured from cast aluminium with a reliable pneumatic drive. The CLD’s simple design has less internal parts than ordinary torque multipliers – minimising the frequency of servicing required, which in turn reduces costs.
The CLD torque multiplier was an ergonomically safer option than the harmful hammering of the impact wrenches being used for this application which eliminated the frequent costly repairs. The CLD Series provided a fast, compact, cost-effective torqueing solution which increased the speed and efficiency of the gas engine manufacturer’s operations by reducing application issues and tool costs.
